Microsoft Releases Updates to Fix Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installation errors

Microsoft has released an update to solve various problems that occur during the installation of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Office 2010released.



SYMPTOM:


When you use Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) install using Microsoft Update, you receive the following error message:


Code 78F Windows Update encountered an unknown error.


If you are downloading and the SP1 package from Microsoft Download Center, you receive the following error message:


The installation of this packed failed.


The Officesuitewwsp1-x-none_msplog .log file that is generated during the installation contains an error message that resembles the following:


Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of Assembly component. HRESULT: 0x80131047.



CAUSE:


This update fixes the error message that is reported during product installation from the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. SP1 does not need to be installed for the error message should be displayed.


This problem may occur if the Windows Installer encounters a reference to a drive that no longer exists, or to a removable media device that contains no readable media. For example, this problem may occur when the Windows Installer a reference to a blank DVD or CD drive.



WORKAROUND:


Before you install Office 2010 SP1, put a readable DVD or CD into the optical drive, or connect a USB drive.



SOLUTION:


You can solve this problem, download and install the following update before you install Office 2010 SP1. This update reduces installation problems of updates installed on Microsoft Office 2010.
